The Channel 4 Apprenticeship Programme

If you are looking for an opportunity to gain work experience and a qualification, then an apprenticeship at Channel 4 might be for you. Our Apprenticeships are full-time, with four days per week spent working in a C4 department and one day per week completing the formal learning components of the apprenticeship. You’ll spend 60% of your working week in your office base and 40% working from home.

The formal training provided includes workshops, tutorials, webinars, coaching and, in some cases, residential boot camps. You can read more about the qualification being offered for this apprenticeship below.

Am I eligible to apply?
  • You must be 18 years old or over at the time the scheme starts to apply. There is no upper age limit.
  • You’ll need to have a Grade C (4) or above in Maths & English GCSE
  • You can’t have already completed the qualification being offered or similar at the same or higher level

Department Description

4Studio is the home of social media content at Channel 4. This includes content made about and with TV shows and talent, content with brands and sponsors, or original content for social media audiences. We distribute and manage this content across over 100 accounts. The primary activities are to curate (existing) and create (new) short-form content and distribute it through actively managed social media channels. The Social Media Apprentices will work closely with key people and departments within C4 and, on occasion, with external partners. The role will be based in C4’s National HQ in Leeds and will contribute to C4’s regional strategy, expanding opportunities outside London and broadening the company’s diversity of creative contribution.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to a Social Strategist, the Social Media Apprentice is a key member of the Channels Teams in 4Studio. You’ll experience all the different aspects of the work during rotations and will assist the team to produce and publish campaigns that drive viewers to engage with Channel content.

  • Coordinate, manage and build Channel 4’s social media presence across Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Spotify, Snapchat and TikTok to drive views
  • Learn the production process from idea to publication, including asset briefing, video editing, ideation or writing copy for social posts
  • Create content for publication including videos, images or thumbnails
  • Manage calendar of key cultural moments and events and generate ideas
  • Review content performance and assist with testing and reporting
  • Assist with day-to-day administrative tasks
  • Analyse competitors and other key players’ social channels
  • Build and maintain good relationships with internal departments and external partners
  • Engage with C4 audiences online and stay up to date with social media trends

Hybrid Working

From September 2023, Channel 4 has operated a 60/40 working pattern (three office days per week). Offices are open five days a week, and employees can choose where to spend the rest of the week.
