A clean energy technology company in Munich is seeking an experienced DevOps / Platform Engineer to design and develop a platform supporting simulation and optimization in stellarator design. You will manage cloud infrastructure and operations while working closely with fusion experts and AI researchers. Ideal candidates have strong DevOps skills, experience with cloud platforms, and a focus on building scalable solutions in the field of clean energy.
At Proxima Fusion, we're driven by a bold mission – to redefine the future of sustainable energy. Our unique concept, built upon the groundbreaking W7-X stellarator and the latest advances in technology, paves the way for commercially viable fusion power plants.
What’s more, our work in stellarator optimization, powered by cutting-edge computation and machine learning, is propelling us into uncharted territories of fusion technology. New higher performance design points are unlocked by high temperature superconducting magnets.
To fully grasp this huge opportunity, we’re building a team of extremely dedicated and passionate people who come together to drive something extraordinary, radically transforming technology in the world.
You will get to work on some of the most complex tech challenges to bring abundant, safe, clean energy to the world.
You'll get to join and learn from an exceptional selection of accomplished and driven individuals.
Do your life’s best work and enjoy the journey.
Get to show that big things are possible in Europe when you assemble the best talent.
Proxima Fusion’s simulation-first approach will be defined by the software infrastructure and tools enabling it. Our challenge is to build software enabling exploration of the vast hyper-dimensional space of stellarator design in order to maximise feasibility and minimise cost.
The Dev Platform team is building the foundation for our highly integrated, simulation-driven approach to stellarator design. Our core data, compute, and analysis infrastructure enables research and development across the company. In this role, you will collaborate directly with fusion experts, engineers, and AI researchers to create infrastructure and shape the way we develop software. If you have strong DevOps skills, a focus on product quality, and a proactive mindset, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to a future powered by fusion.
Design and develop a platform that helps simulation, optimization and stellarator design teams to overcome their challenges and achieve their goals more efficiently.
Champion the Cloud Infrastructure Operations.
Manage general cloud infrastructure (including IaaC, permission management, and cloud efficiency).
Support the democratization of cloud computing (e.g. K8s, Ray, Dask, Docker, PEX).
Unify and streamline the development experience (including CI/CD, Devcontainers, and monorepos).
Improving observability.
Manage Distributed Computing and High-Performance Computing clusters for research, stellarator design and optimization.
Raise the bar in our cross-org DevOps practices and optimize our DORA metrics.
An experienced DevOps / Platform / Cloud engineer with a strong foundation in computer science, software engineering or a related field.
Multiple years of deep hands-on experience in most of the areas listed above on at least one cloud platform provider (e.g. GCP, AWS, Azure).
Proficient in Python and Linux.
Experienced with the development and management of scalable cloud infrastructure used in science, ML or other data processing-heavy use cases.
Experienced in end-to-end/full-stack system design, ideally within an environment supporting physics, engineering, or AI teams.
Driven to solve complex problems with simple solutions and a desire to contribute to clean energy.
Recruiter Interview (30-60 min).
Technical Screening (30 min).
Technical Panel (3x60 min).
CEO call (30 min).
At Proxima Fusion, our mission is bold: making limitless clean energy a reality. To get there, we need a high-performing, diverse team that brings different perspectives, challenges assumptions, and builds together with purpose. We know that diversity of thought and experience leads to better ideas, stronger execution, and a more resilient team. We don’t look at how you identify, what you look like, who you choose to worship or what ethnicity you are. We care about what you can bring to the table.
