Job description
About Energy Systems

We help customers navigate the complex transition to a decarbonized and more sustainable energy future. We do this by assuring that energy systems work safely and effectively, using solutions that are increasingly digital. We also help industries and governments to navigate the many complex, interrelated transitions taking place globally and regionally, in the energy industry.

Do you enjoy solving real-life problems and learning from industry leading experts? Do you want to work on a variety of projects that touch all aspects of the energy transition?

Here at DNV, what we do matters. Whether it’s helping the Energy Industry transition to a more decarbonised and sustainable future or helping safeguard life, property and the environment, every day, what you do will make a difference. This is our shared purpose and one our people are proud to be part of.

Our highly respected Risk Advisory department in the UK and Ireland is primarily responsible for delivery of consultancy and risk management services. Our team provides high quality services and best practice in risk identification, assessment and mitigation and assist our customers in risk-based decision support. This approach is highly valued in Oil & Gas (upstream, midstream, downstream), the evolving hydrogen sector and in allied areas of Energy transition (Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), renewables).

Our Opportunity

As a Graduate Consultant in our recently refurbished central London offices, you’ll join our growing team of experts who love finding innovative solutions to our industry’s most challenging problems. You’ll be given real responsibility from day one, collaborating with forward-thinking customers and technical experts across our business, helping deliver career and industry-defining projects. You will be given the time to build your network, the resources to support your development, and the freedom to satisfy your curiosity and desire to learn.

Your development opportunities will include:

  • Learning how major hazards, their likelihood and consequences are managed; understanding the importance of reliability of safeguards; and how to make balanced risk-based arguments for safe operations.
  • Applying consequence and risk assessment methods and tools to solve real customer issues using industry leading software and tools, validated through large/full scale experiments performed at our major hazards testing and research facility in Spadeadam. Gas dispersion studies, advanced computational simulations, and quantitative risk assessments are just a taste of the projects that you will work on.
  • Learning Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) software packages and having the opportunity to specialise in gas dispersion, fire and explosion modelling for real life assets.
  • The opportunity to actively engage with clients to understand their challenges as they seek to make the Energy industry safer and more sustainable, with a special focus on energy transition challenges.
  • Working alongside a variety of world-leading experts to enhance your understanding of our industry, its terminology and how different maths, physics and engineering disciplines contribute to safety

You’ll be stretched but always supported, so don’t worry if the Energy industry or terminology above is unfamiliar to you, we will teach you all you need to know. Upon joining, you’ll receive a buddy to help you settle in, a mentor to enhance your technical knowledge, as well as ongoing on-the-job coaching and support from your colleagues.

Our structured Graduate Programme therefore provides a fantastic start to your career, enhancing both your technical and professional skills and supporting your journey towards chartership and becoming an expert in your chosen field.

We value all our people and the contributions they make to our business, so it’s important that our rewards make us all feel valued here. That’s why we offer a flexible reward and benefits package, allowing you to choose the things that matter most to you, including;

  • Minimum Starting salary of £33,750
  • Non contractual profit share scheme
  • Structured Graduate Programme, development and excellent career progression opportunities
  • Lifestyle benefits: 26 days annual leave, opportunity for up to 10 days unpaid leave, sabbatical leave, hybrid/flexible working options
  • Wellbeing benefits: (inc. Private Medical, Dental Insurance, Health Assessments, Gym allowance). Company contribution towards eye tests and glasses (for computer/laptop users), and Flu Vaccinations. Also, our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) provides free and confidential support for issues including work, family, relationships, money and health and we provide free fruit in our offices
  • Financial Benefits: including a Pension Scheme with employer pension contributions up to 9%, Life Assurance and Income Protection
  • Travel benefits: Season Ticket Loan, Cycle to Work Scheme, Electric Vehicle Salary Sacrifice Scheme (for personal use)
  • Access to employee retail discount site for high street and on-line shopping
Next Steps

We appreciate that applying for a Graduate opportunity, for some, can be a new or daunting experience, which is why we try to make our process as simple, transparent, and as engaging as possible.

  1. Step 1: Follow the link to apply and answer a few simple eligibility questions.
  2. Step 2: Complete a fun, online game-based assessment.
  3. Step 3: Learn more about the role via an online briefing with members of our team.
  4. Step 4: Attend a virtual Assessment Day to learn more about our team and opportunity, have an interview, take part in an interactive team activity and spend time with some of our current/recent graduates.
  5. Step 5: Receive a decision and constructive feedback.

Our process really is as simple as that, so what are you waiting for? Good Luck!

Our application deadline is Sunday 1st March 2026 and we anticipate that our Assessment Centre will take place on 31st March 2026.

Diversity is fundamental to our culture and we invite you to be part of this diversity.

As a Graduate, other than your relevant degree, we don’t expect any prior experience of technical safety, engineering or the Energy industry when you join us; however, we do want you to share our passion for these and demonstrate your desire to develop yourself within this exciting area.

We try to keep our list of essential requirements to a minimum, but there are a few things needed to qualify for our programme:

  • Minimum 2:1 Degree in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering (typically Aerospace, Chemical or Mechanical), Process Safety or Risk and Reliability. Preferably with some experience of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) gained as part of your studies.
  • Available to join the programme by 7 September 2026 at the latest. We also welcome applicants who have already completed their degree and would like to commence sooner.
  • Passion for developing your skills both professionally and personally including the commitment to complete the appropriate professional registration in your field (Chartership).
  • Excellent numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in Excel and Python being beneficial, along with the ability to produce concise technical reports detailing clear outcomes of the analysis for customers.
  • Pro-active to learn new skills displaying a willingness to “get stuck in” and undertake work outside “comfort zone”, demonstrating appropriate balance between asking for help and using own initiative / thinking through the problem.
  • Ability and willingness to take on feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills, enjoys building professional relationships and demonstrates exceptional written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to plan and prioritise own time and activities, to meet deadlines and achieve project objectives.

If you possess the curiosity and initiative to become an expert in your chosen field and potentially one of our future leaders, then our graduate roles could be for you.
