WRVS Services Welfare Officer (SWO) – Join Voluntary Action LeicesterShire (VAL)

We are looking for compassionate, independent professionals to provide confidential welfare support to UK military service personnel. This role is based at one of the military bases, with relocation to a new site every two years.

Salary of £24,355 per annum, rising to £26,651 after successful completion of a 6‑month probationary period.

Hours: 36 per week over 6 days, including evenings and weekends.

Location: Military base in the UK, rotating every two years.

Job Requirements

Essential

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with young adults.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Self‑motivated, adaptable and able to work independently.
  • Willingness to relocate and live in military accommodation away from home for extended periods.
  • Full UK driving licence and UK passport.

Desirable

  • Relevant experience (e.g., youth work, social work, teaching).
  • Experience networking with agencies.
  • Knowledge of the military environment (though not essential).
Job Responsibilities
  • Provide impartial welfare support to service personnel and refer to the Chain of Command or appropriate agencies.
  • Ensure smooth running of Services Welfare Centres, maintaining high standards in operations, activities, and health & safety.
  • Compile monthly morale statistics and support the Chain of Command.
  • Build strong relationships with welfare agencies and attend welfare meetings.
  • Represent Services Welfare at formal functions, exhibitions, and events.
  • Deliver induction presentations and attend training courses.
  • Work flexibly, including occasional out‑of‑hours support.
