Wind Turbine Technician Apprenticeship - London Array Windfarm

Location(s): London Array, KEN, GB, CT11 9LG

Company: RWE Renewables UK Management Ltd.
Type: Full‑time, fixed‑term apprenticeship – start as soon as possible.

Functional area: Operations & Maintenance

Requirements: 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at 4/C or above, including Science, Maths and English.

Salary: £17,510 in the first year, increasing incrementally each year in line with internal pay scales and the national minimum wage.
Benefits: Pension and private single medical cover.

About the role

This 3‑year apprenticeship will train you to become a Wind Turbine Technician. The first two years are classroom‑based at the IPS International training facility in Rochester, and the third year is on‑site training at London Array Offshore Wind Farm in Ramsgate, operating at sea.

Upon completion you will earn an NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (Mechatronics Maintenance Technician).

Responsibilities
  • Electro/Mechanical problem‑solving of wind turbines, working in small teams at height in remote locations using user manuals as reference.
  • Operating advanced mechanical, hydraulic and electrical equipment safely.
  • Planning tools, spares and materials required for each job.
  • Fault finding and diagnosing wind turbine main component condition to determine if on‑site repair is possible or if replacement is needed.
  • Continuous personal development and training to become a multi‑skilled technician covering inspection, maintenance and repair of wind turbines.
Candidate requirements
  • Motivated to learn and undertake a practical role.
  • Willing to be on standby or on call if required.
  • Must be aged 18 or over by August 2026 to meet provider requirements.

Apprenticeship details

All apprentices study full‑time for the first two years at IPS International, Rochester, before being deployed at London Array Offshore Windfarm for the third year to gain hands‑on experience.

Accommodation is provided during term time for the first two years, and travel expenses are covered for two journeys per month between Ramsgate and the training site.

Accommodation / Travel

Term‑time accommodation costs, including rent and utilities, are paid by RWE. Daily commute to the college is also paid unless group travel is provided. A weekly allowance for food and drink is provided while away from home.

Holidays

25 days (to be taken outside of term time) plus public holidays.
