An experienced MIG/Aluminum TIG Welder is required to join a high‑performing team at Solotech. The welder will work alongside the manufacturing department to produce and distribute flight cases and transit cases for the transportation and storage of delicate hi‑tech equipment. All welds must be of high quality and aesthetically correct, and all products have set welding times which must be adhered to.

Also included in the role will be Fabrications Technician responsibilities when required, assisting with the building of flight cases. Full training and support will be given for this secondary part of the role.

The successful candidate will be an active member of a production team specialising in the manufacture of flight cases for the entertainment industry. Full training and support will be given for the secondary part of the role.

Your day will look like:
  • Reading technical drawings and cutting lists to cut steel and aluminium to length.
  • Welding in both TIG and MIG formats to a high standard within short timeframes.
  • Welding OEM and custom products in mild steel and aluminium to a high quality while adhering to timeframes.
  • Maintaining and promoting safe working practices within the department, including correct operation of tools and equipment and use of PPE.
  • Assisting with monitoring stock levels and working with managers to re‑order where necessary.
  • Keeping the welding room clean, organised and standard.
  • Identifying improvements to processes and procedures through continuous improvement and liaison with managers, to improve cost effectiveness and, where appropriate, generate income.
  • Covering or assisting other roles within the operation; full training/support will be given.
  • Maintaining welding room equipment and machinery.
  • Leaving the workspace clear and tidy at the end of the shift.
  • Assisting with unloading and storage of incoming materials.
  • Ensuring end‑of‑shift shutdown procedures are carried out.
  • Assisting with the assembly and manufacture of flight cases using a variety of wood/metal working skills and equipment (air drills, riveters, wall saw, table saw, general power and battery tools).
  • Ensuring safe working practices within the department, including correct operation of tools and equipment and use of guards and safety clothing.
  • Any other reasonable tasks including ad‑hoc requests as required by the manager.
Level of education
  • Minimum of GCSE level (or equivalent) or relevant work experience.
Work experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a welder.
Essential skills / experience
  • Extensive MIG/Aluminium TIG welding experience.
  • Experience of welding and fabricating from design drawings.
  • Experience of hand and power tools, pillar drills, steel and aluminium saws, grinding equipment and milling machinery.
  • Experience of following technical drawings unaided.
  • Accurate measurements to within 0.5 mm.
  • Experience of using a range of materials, profiles and thicknesses.
  • Interest in fabrication of raw ply, laminated ply and aluminium.
  • Ability to read and understand design drawings.
  • Willingness and ability to learn quickly.
  • Strong communication skills.
Desirable skills / experience
  • NVQ level 2–3 in welding, fabricating.
  • Being coded would be an advantage.
Essential requirements
  • Full clean UK driving licence.
  • Right to work and remain in the UK.
