Job description

Join us in shaping the future of waste and recycling in South Holland!

South Holland District Council is creating a brand-new engagement team as we launch a major transformation of our Waste & Recycling Collection Service in October 2026. This is your chance to make a real difference in your community.

As an Engagement Officer, you’ll be the face of this change—working directly with residents, businesses, and stakeholders to build understanding, encourage compliance and participation, and ensure the success of our new service.

You’ll thrive in this role if you:

  • Enjoy connecting with people and building positive relationships
  • Can adapt to different situations and work both independently and as part of a team
  • Are ready to take initiative and find solutions when challenges arise

What are we looking for?

  • We’re looking for someone with strong communication skills and the ability to engage confidently with people, accompanied by previous experience in a similar role
  • A flexible approach to working hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
  • A full driving licence and the ability to independently and reliably travel across the district
  • The confidence to work outdoors in all weather conditions

You don’t necessarily need to come from a waste or environmental background to succeed in this role. If you have transferable skills, enjoy working with people, and are willing to learn, we’ll support you with full training. Previous experience is helpful but not essential.

This is more than a job—it’s an opportunity to help create a cleaner, greener South Holland. If you’re passionate about the environment and want to be part of something that matters, we’d love to hear from you.

Please read the job description before applying to understand the full duties and what we’re looking for, so you can be sure this role is right for you.
