We are looking for an experienced Simulation & Modelling Engineer to be responsible for the development of RAB’s performance simulation tools and related simulation framework, andRAB’s vehicle model library.

This role is key to the development of advanced in-house performance‑simulation capabilities, integrating vehicle & tyre models, control strategies, and using advanced numerical methodologies to feed novel simulation‑based methodologies for car performance development and optimisation.

Simulation Tools & Framework Development

Develop and implement high‑fidelity simulation tools to support vehicle performance development and optimisation;

Contribute to the tool architecture and development roadmap, defining best practices for simulation methodology, code structure, and validation;

Develop modular, efficient, and scalable codebases to ensure reliability and maintainability;

Ensure that engineering tools under the role’s ownership meet quality standards and integrate coherently with the VPG Toolset and related guidelines;

Vehicle Model Development & Integration

Develop and maintain RAB’s vehicle model library and sub‑models for use within the simulation framework;

Ensure compatibility of models with the numerical methods used across RAB’s simulation environment;

Correlate simulation outputs with telemetry data to ensure accuracy and reliability;

Collaborate with Vehicle Dynamics, Aerodynamics, and Tyre Modelling engineers to translate simulation insights into performance improvements;

Innovation, Collaboration & Support

Explore new solutions and methodologies for simulation‑driven vehicle performance improvement;

Provide technical expertise and support to other VPG simulation‑related projects;

Support simulation tool deployment and usage during race and test activities, when required;

Demonstrate flexibility, professionalism, and a proactive attitude in promoting a positive image of the department, team, and sponsors;

Experience
  • MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Control Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field;
  • Experience in vehicle dynamics simulation or control system development, ideally in motorsport or high‑performance vehicle engineering;
  • Deep understanding of vehicle modelling and simulation methodologies;
  • Relevant experience for the role:
  • Dynamic multi‑body simulation.
  • Model‑based control and optimisation.
  • Efficient numerical methods implementation.
  • Strong programming skills relevant for the role:
  • Modelica (Dymola) – multi‑domain physical modelling
  • Python
  • Matlab / Simulink
  • C++ – efficient simulation and solver implementation
  • Driver‑in‑the‑Loop simulation knowledge would be considered an advantage;
  • Familiarity with data acquisition and analysis tools and methodologies would be considered an asset;
  • Excellent communicative and collaborative skills are essential;
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and a proven ability to work under pressure, with a minimum of supervision, to the highest levels of accuracy and quality;
  • A flexible approach to working hours is essential, together with a very good knowledge of English.
