Job description
Trustee with Marketing/ Communications expertise - Volunteer

Safe In Sussex

We’re seeking a new trustee with marketing and communications experience to lead our domestic abuse charity through a new campaign to raise funds to purchase our own refuge for women and their children who are fleeing domestic violence and abuse.

What difference will you make?

As a trustee with marketing/communications/digital skills, you can help ensure our "Open the Doors" refuge purchase campaign is as successful as possible.

As a trustee more generally, our Trustee Board works very closely with the CEO and senior staff of the charity to develop future strategy and to ensure good management and governance of our services. Without the oversight of the Trustees, the charity would not be able to deliver its vital services to our service users.

What are we looking for?
  • A willingness to commit to the Mission Statement of Safe in Sussex
  • The ability to devote the necessary time and effort to the Board of Trustees
  • Good, independent judgement
  • A willingness to speak their mind
  • An ability to think creatively
  • An understanding and acceptance of the duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship to ensure Safe in Sussex complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
  • An ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • The commitment to be able to attend Board meetings which are held approximately every six weeks
  • Previous experience of participation on a voluntary basis on a Committees would be useful but is not a pre-requisite
What will you be doing?

As a trustee you’ll have an essential role in contributing towards our life saving and life changing work to support those affected by domestic violence and abuse.

We are launching a major campaign to raise funds to buy our own refuge to help future proof our work.

For this reason, we’re looking for a trustee with experience and enthusiasm to support the Board and the leadership team with this campaign.

Our board has a close relationship with our senior management team, and prides itself on being very friendly and relaxed. We also have three sub-committees, including one on income and fundraising and would hope our new trustee to be part of that.
