Job summary

A local charity supporting homelessness in Peterborough is seeking a Volunteer Trustee to help enhance partnerships, raise awareness, and directly reduce homelessness. Ideal candidates should possess skills in communications, project management, and fundraising. Strong organizational abilities, compassion, and potential lived experience in homelessness are valued. This volunteer role allows you to make a significant impact in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Support partner organizations in communications and fundraising.

  • Prepare board agendas, minutes, and submit returns to the Charity Commission.
  • Assist with IT management and fundraising leadership.
  • Translate compassion for homelessness into positive action.

Trustee – Volunteer

Safer off the Streets is a multilateral charity based in Peterborough that supports those experiencing homelessness through partnerships with volunteer, faith, community, and statutory organisations.

What difference will you make?

Homeless individuals often face drug, alcohol and mental health challenges, sometimes exacerbated by the stress of homelessness. As a trustee you will help Safer off the Streets become an effective partnership, directly reducing suffering across Peterborough and supporting the organisations that provide care. Your work will help lessen the number of people who have to sleep rough and struggle with long‑term homelessness.

  • Charity Fund Raising
  • Governance and Administration
  • Research of Best Practice
  • Workshop Facilitation

Candidates may also have:

  • Lived experience of homelessness
  • Experience supporting adults with complex needs

Responsibilities

As a trustee you will:

  • Actively support partner organisations in communications, research, fundraising, networking and learning opportunities.
  • Inform the public and raise awareness of homelessness.
  • Assist the City Council with strategic planning related to homelessness.
  • Organise quarterly partnership events to strengthen relationships and develop effective plans.
  • Serve as Company Secretary, preparing board agendas, minutes and submitting returns to the Charity Commission.
  • Assist with IT management and security, project and workshop facilitation, research and fundraising leadership.
  • Turn compassion for those experiencing homelessness into positive action and good governance.
Requirements

• No paid staff – you must be able to devote time to the trustee role. • Drive, enthusiasm and strong organisational skills. • Compassion and empathy for homeless individuals. • Where possible, lived experience and/or relevant volunteer experience is a plus.
