Shift Pattern: 24/7 rotation (5‑week cycle)

We’re supporting a major national infrastructure programme and looking for a Transmission Engineer with solid SDH/PDH and microwave experience. You’ll be part of a busy operations centre responsible for monitoring and maintaining the transmission network that underpins critical national services. The role focuses on transport‑layer stability, incident response and coordination with field teams and vendors.

What you’ll be doing
  • Monitoring and supporting SDH/PDH transmission systems across a multi‑site estate
  • Investigating alarms such as LOS, LOF, AIS, RDI, protection switching events and card‑level faults
  • Troubleshooting microwave radio links, including performance drops and path degradation
  • Coordinating with field engineers for on‑site diagnostics, swap‑outs and corrective work
  • Identifying physical‑layer and transport‑level faults and escalating appropriately
  • Working within a 24/7 operations environment, documenting all actions clearly in tickets and reports
  • Liaising with OEMs and internal engineering teams during major incidents
What you’ll bring
  • Hands‑on experience with SDH/PDH transmission networks (e.g., Marconi, Nortel, Nokia/Transmode or similar)
  • Strong background in microwave radio systems within telco or utilities environments
  • Experience working in an operations centre, transmission NOC or similar fault‑management function
  • Practical understanding of legacy transport technologies and their alarm behaviours
  • Active SC clearance or eligibility for immediate transfer
  • 5‑week repeating pattern including evenings, nights and weekend shifts
  • Standard weekday hours until the shift system goes live
  • Day rate aligned to experience

If you’re an experienced transmission engineer who enjoys hands‑on operational work across SDH, PDH and microwave networks, we’d be keen to speak with you.
