Job description
Technical Project Manager – London (Hybrid)

Complex diagnostics · Multidisciplinary leadership · High‑impact role
6‑12 month contract – Competitive rate of pay – Inside IR35
Are you an experienced Technical Project Manager who thrives at the intersection of engineering, science, and programme delivery?
This is a chance to lead the development of cutting‑edge diagnostic instrumentation and consumables, working with cross‑functional teams across the UK and US to deliver a next‑generation molecular diagnostics platform.

The Opportunity

In this role, you’ll support and coordinate multi‑disciplinary engineering and scientific teams as they design and develop complex medical devices, combining hardware, microfluidics, software, and assay development.
You’ll work closely with senior leadership to maintain alignment with business goals, oversee compliance with contractual deliverables (including US government requirements), and ensure projects remain on time, on budget, and within scope.
The position sits at the heart of the organisation’s technical delivery — making you the key link between R&D, Programme Management, Quality, external partners, and senior executives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support multi‑disciplinary teams across engineering, platform integration, assay development, software, and manufacturing as they develop complex medical devices.
  • Collaborate with Heads of Department and team leads to plan, estimate budgets, and allocate resources for instrument and consumable development.
  • Ensure all contractual deliverables — including routine progress updates — are prepared accurately and on schedule.
  • Support approval, negotiation, administration, and fulfilment of subcontractor agreements in line with internal policies and US regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and resolve cross‑functional issues impacting programme delivery.
  • Oversee risk identification, mitigation strategies, and cross‑team interdependencies.
  • Maintain compliance with internal SOPs and quality processes.
  • Work across time zones and collaborate with US‑based teams as required.
  • Support other project and programme activities as assigned.
About You

You’ll bring strong technical grounding in hardware or fluidics‑based medical technologies, alongside proven project management capability within regulated product development.

Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and fluidics principles applied to medical or life science systems.
  • Project/programme management qualifications (PRINCE2, PMP, etc.).
  • Demonstrable experience leading R&D teams developing complex medical devices, consumables, or IVD products.
  • Excellent understanding of regulated development environments (ISO 13485, FDA 510(k), CE IVD).
  • Skilled at navigating interdependencies across large, multi‑team programmes.
  • Proficient in MS Project and the Office 365 suite.
  • Familiar with Agile ways of working and tools such as Jira/Atlassian.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Able to build strong relationships across technical functions and geographies.
  • Highly organised, delivery‑driven, and motivated.
Working Pattern
  • Primarily on‑site in London, with hybrid flexibility.
  • Occasional travel to the US may be required.
  • Flexibility around working hours to collaborate with US‑based colleagues on occasion.
What’s on Offer
  • Influence the development of a next‑generation diagnostic platform with significant real‑world impact
  • Work closely with senior leadership and global project teams
  • Opportunity to shape process, delivery, and technical outcomes in a growing organisation
  • Competitive salary + benefits
