Job description
System Design Engineer - Image Processing and Control

MBDA is looking for motivated engineers to continue to develop DragonFire into a world class, deployable Laser Directed Energy Weapon (LDEW) system. The opportunity focuses on the Image Processing and Control subsystem within DragonFire.

Overview

DragonFire has been and continues to be a boundary-pushing weapon system development programme with significant industry and customer engagement. The programme aims at developing the UK’s first Laser Directed Energy Weapon (LDEW) concept demonstrator, with ongoing trials and rapid system development across the key weapon system domains of Systems Engineering: requirements, design, performance analysis and certification.

Responsibilities
  • Manage system requirements and verification, ensuring compliance evolution against a rapid system baseline release schedule.
  • Generate detailed requirement sets from various drivers and manage changes across baselines.
  • Support system requirement flow-down to design and implementation teams.
  • Initiate and drive risk quantification and mitigation activities as trade studies.
  • Communicate issues, architectures and ideas at all levels with varying levels of specificity.
  • Act as a flexible systems thinker and disseminate technical information to stakeholders in an understandable manner.
  • Deliver outputs within agreed timescales and develop strong working relationships with partners, stakeholders and internal teams.
  • Contribute to the growth of the Systems Design team and its people as the project develops.
  • Experience with system architecting tools (e.g., DOORS/DOORS NG/Rhapsody) is desirable; knowledge of lasers and/or optical physics is beneficial.
  • Support the image processing and control subsystem as part of the broader system engineering effort.
Qualifications
  • Must be familiar with Electronic Engineering requirements content and experienced in handling embedded software or firmware requirements.
  • Experience developing complex system design requirements, particularly for software implementation.

  • Salary: Circa £55,000 depending on experience
