Sustainability Consultant

Hoare Lea is a human‑centric and planet‑conscious engineering consultancy offering intelligent and sustainable solutions for the built environment across the UK.

About the role

We are looking for a Sustainability Consultant to join our team in Bournemouth or Reading. You will work within our Sustainability Group, delivering environmental assessments, developing sustainability strategies, and supporting the modelling and analysis of embodied carbon, energy, and circular economy opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the delivery of environmental assessments (BREEAM, WELL, HQM, etc.) from early design stages through to completion.
• Support the development of holistic sustainability strategies.
• Undertake modelling and analysis, including embodied carbon, circular economy opportunities, building performance simulation, operational energy use, energy generation and overheating.
• Support development of energy strategies with our clients to lead sustainability innovation on a series of developments.
• Mentor and train graduate and junior team members.
• Collaborate on research and development initiatives to maintain industry leadership.
• Contribute to industry guidance and research studies where appropriate.

About you

You are likely to have knowledge and competence in:

• Bespoke sustainability charters
• Planning documents (sustainability statements, energy statements, whole‑life carbon reports, circular economy statements)
• Whole Life Carbon Assessments (OneClick or other methodologies)
• Building Regulations Part L assessments using Elmhurst and IES
• In‑use energy modelling and assessment
• Dynamic modelling for thermal comfort assessments and overheating risk assessments
• Net zero carbon strategies and embodied carbon calculations

To be successful in this role you will need:

• Experience working within the built environment sector.
• Current work within a sustainability or engineering consultancy.
• A degree in an applicable field and passion for creating sustainable solutions.
• A collaborative mindset, good communication skills and enthusiasm for teamwork.
• You are serious about sustainability.
