Are you passionate about the ongoing maintenance and improvement of manufacturing environments through electrical maintenance, installation, and improvement activities? We’re now increasing our plant capacity at the Robertsbridge site in East Sussex which means there is an opportunity for a self‑motivated, enthusiastic Electrical Craftsman to join the team.

As an Electrical Craftsperson / Maintenance Engineer, you will join a highly skilled team tasked with delivering focused preventative scheduled maintenance, reactive repairs, some installation work, and supporting the ongoing improvement of plant equipment. The work involves working against preventative maintenance schedules in a CMMS system, completing daily walk‑arounds, and creating work orders against issues identified. Interacting with our wider engineering team and production operators, ensuring plant is performing to optimal levels. You will be tasked with identifying solutions through fault finding, the application of root cause analysis, the application of lean tools, while ensuring that safety protocols are always followed.

British Gypsum is one of 30 Saint‑Gobain brands and is a market‑leading manufacturer of gypsum‑based building materials from insulation, wall lining dry boards, and plaster to ceilings and floors. Our products shape modern interiors for the commercial, residential, and off‑site sectors of the construction industry.

This role works a 12‑hour 5‑crew shift pattern that includes days, nights and weekend working. In return, we offer an attractive benefit package including 25 days annual leave, pension, life assurance, share scheme and great savings with our employee reward scheme.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Working within a professional maintenance programme to maximise plant reliability.
  • Team working with other maintenance and operations personnel.
  • Providing engineering support to the shift Autonomous Maintenance team.
  • Reacting to plant breakdowns – fault finding and timely repair, reporting of data, and root cause analysis.
  • Actively participating in a continuous improvement culture, driving towards improving our World Class Manufacturing standards.
What we’re looking for:
  • Experience of safely maintaining a medium to heavy process in a continuous manufacturing environment. Ideally apprentice trained with NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Engineering and IEE Wiring Regulations – 18th Edition.
  • Experience in electrical controls would be a significant advantage e.g. AC & DC drives, PLCs, relay logic, inverters, PID loops, industrial distribution systems.
  • Computer literacy – Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement tools.
  • Being planned, organised and positively focused in your day to day activities.
  • Be able to understand engineering drawings and principles and be aware of electrical health and safety issues.
