Job description

We’re looking for a proactive and people-focused experienced SHEQ Advisor to join our team. In this role, you’ll work closely with our Group SHEQ Director to help make sure our workplaces are safe, supportive, and compliant. You’ll play a big part in shaping how we deliver our Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Management Systems – whether that’s carrying out audits and inspections on site, supporting our teams with advice and guidance, preparing reports, or delivering engaging presentations.

A key part of your role will be working alongside our site management teams to ensure our sites are safe and compliant – this means completing regular audits, offering practical advice, and building strong working relationships to help everyone stay safe.

You’ll also investigate incidents with clarity and care, ensuring findings are reported in a way that supports managers, insurers, and others in making the right decisions. In addition, you’ll contribute to tender submissions, helping us put our best foot forward with clients.

The role will be based at our Head Office in Leicester, with plenty of time spent visiting our construction sites across the wider East Midlands (and occasionally the West Midlands). Every day will be different, so flexibility around start, and finish times is essential.

What is involved within the Role?

  • Support site management teams in keeping sites safe and compliant through regular Health & Safety audits and clear feedback.
  • Investigate and write up incidents, near misses, and cases of ill health in a way that supports learning and improvement.
  • Pull together and present key health and safety statistics.
  • Support both site and office-based colleagues with guidance on all aspects of health, safety, environmental, and quality systems.
  • Help plan and deliver training sessions that bring safety to life.
  • Actively promote a positive health and safety culture across the company and with our subcontractors.
  • Assist with Construction Phase Health and Safety Plans, working closely with site teams.
  • Contribute to tender submissions and pre-qualification questionnaires.
  • Assess subcontractor competence to ensure safe working practices.
  • Attend and contribute to health and safety meetings both on site and at company level.
  • Liaise with clients and external bodies, including Local Authorities, HSE, and the Environmental Agency, representing the company in a professional and approachable way.
  • Draft and share regular health and safety alerts to keep everyone informed.
  • Support with insurance claims by liaising with our provider.
  • Contribute to the development of new procedures and initiatives that strengthen our health, safety, environmental, and quality systems.
  • Get involved in ad-hoc projects as needed – no two days will be the same!

About you:

We’re looking for someone who not only has the right skills but also brings enthusiasm and a collaborative spirit to the role.

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • A NEBOSH Construction Certificate (or equivalent qualification).
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a construction health and safety, environmental, or quality role.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, 45001, and 14001 standards.
  • Experience writing RAMS and COSHH assessments.
  • Strong IT skills and confidence using digital tools.
  • Experience delivering training or presentations.
  • A background in health and safety, environmental, energy, and quality management systems.
  • The ability to prioritise, stay organised, and meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on new responsibilities as the role evolves.
  • A strong team-player mindset – someone who supports colleagues and shares knowledge openly.

What’s on offer?

We offer a range of competitive benefits, such as:

  • A supportive and inclusive working environment.
  • Opportunities for professional development and ESG training.
  • The chance to be part of a company making a meaningful social impact.
  • Enhanced pension scheme.
  • Private medical insurance.
  • Life assurance.
  • Generous annual leave with the option to purchase extra annual leave.

To apply, please submit a CV and covering letter with salary expectations.
