Job description

This Service Tech Specialist role is based at a customer calibration lab in Edinburgh and focuses on keeping high performance electronic test instruments and mechanical torque tools accurate and reliable. The position combines hands on lab work with planned visits to customer sites across Scotland so it will suit someone who enjoys variety and direct contact with engineering and production teams. You will work with equipment from multiple manufacturers in sectors where measurement integrity is critical including defence and advanced manufacturing. The role offers structured daytime hours long term stability and the opportunity to develop a career within a global electronic test and measurement environment.

Role Overview
  • Calibrate and validate a wide range of electronic and electrical test instruments and mechanical torque tools to defined procedures and standards.
  • Perform calibration work in a customer based lab in Edinburgh and during planned visits to customer sites across Scotland.
  • Work on both in house products and third party equipment to maintain functionality accuracy and compliance.
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues using judgement to decide when equipment can be adjusted on site and when escalation or return is required.
  • Record accurate traceable calibration data and produce clear documentation and certificates for customers.
  • Communicate with customers face to face and in writing to understand requirements provide updates and answer technical questions.
  • Plan and organise travel for on site calibration work with an expected travel level of around twenty five to thirty percent of your time.
  • Operate safely on defence and other sensitive manufacturing sites following local security and EHS requirements at all times.
Experience & Skills Required
  • Technical education in electronics electrical engineering or a closely related subject.
  • Experience using electronic test equipment gained in industry or through higher education projects is essential.
  • Practical experience of calibrating electronic or electrical instruments or torque tools is strongly preferred.
  • Background as an electronic or electrical technician with calibration exposure will be an advantage
  • Good IT skills including use of Windows and Microsoft Office for data entry reporting and communication.
  • Confident communication skills in English both written and spoken with the ability to explain technical points clearly.
  • Ability to recognise and anticipate problems and look proactively for practical solutions.
  • Comfortable working independently in a customer environment with a professional and proactive attitude.
  • Able to obtain UK security clearance due to the high proportion of work on defence manufacturing sites.
  • UK citizenship is desirable to support security clearance requirement.

You will work mainly day time hours from 07 00 to 15 00 Monday to Friday in the Edinburgh lab with planned travel for on site calibration visits across Scotland which currently includes locations such as Glasgow the Scottish Borders and Inverness.

Salary
