A leading broadcaster is seeking a Senior Technical Operator in Plymouth. You will join a dynamic team, directing live news broadcasts and handling various editing tasks. The ideal candidate has strong Open Media knowledge and is comfortable working across platforms including TV and online content. PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £32,900 – 40,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

BBC South West covers Devon, Cornwall, West Somerset and Dorset and the Isles of Scilly. Our patch is just over 14,000sq km and we have some of the most beautiful land and sea‑scapes anywhere in England. We pride ourselves in making creative and engaging television, radio and online material. We are looking for a creative and motivated individual to join our innovative and enthusiastic Operations Team as a multiskilled Senior Technical Operator based in Plymouth.
You will work primarily to our flagship evening news programme ‘Spotlight’ but there will also be opportunities to work on network news programming, our weekly Political programme, and iPlayer live streams and half‑hour commissions, alongside our digital and social media teams. We are truly multi‑platform in the South West. You should be as conversant with creating content for online and gathering for radio as you are for TV.
As a STO in Plymouth you’ll be directing our live TV news bulletins. You’ll be editing on Quantel and out on the road shooting and editing both news and features. You’ll also be operating the full range of gallery and studio equipment.
