Job description

We’re looking for an experienced Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer to design, manage, and optimise our hybrid (Azure + on‑prem) IT environment. This is a hands‑on role responsible for maintaining high‑performance, secure, and resilient infrastructure that supports critical business systems. The role is based at our Head Office in Abingdon, and due to the geographically dispersed nature of our business some UK, Overseas travel and Out of Hours coverage will be required in order to meet operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
Infrastructure Design, Management & Support:
  • Implement, and maintain hybrid infrastructure solutions (Azure + on‑prem) that meet performance, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain and secure Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Azure AD (Entra ID) synchronisation.
  • Provide 2nd & 3rd Line support for IT Infrastructure & Systems.
Project Delivery & Continuous Improvement
  • Take ownership of infrastructure projects from design through to successful delivery, ensuring clear documentation, stakeholder engagement, and post‑implementation review.
  • Collaborate closely with IT leadership, software, and clinical application teams to support digital transformation and integration objectives.
Security, Compliance & Continuity
  • Maintain alignment with Cyber Essentials Plus & GDPR.
  • Contribute to security risk assessments, incident response, and audit readiness.
Automation & Monitoring
  • Automate deployment and maintenance tasks using PowerShell, Azure Automation, or equivalent tools.
  • Maintain infrastructure observability through tools.
Skills and Experience:
Essential:
  • 10+ years in IT infrastructure roles, including 5+ years in a senior/lead capacity.
  • Microsoft Azure, Windows Server, SQL Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN, firewalls, and VPNs.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Intune, Endpoint Manager, and automation scripting (PowerShell).
  • Proven track record managing secure, compliant IT environments.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and deliver projects on time.
Desirable:
  • Exposure to NHS or healthcare IT environments.
  • Project management experience.
  • Azure DevOps, Infrastructure‑as‑Code, Citrix, RDS/VDI, or SQL Always On experience.
Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
Desirable:
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ‑104) or Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ‑305) preferred.
  • Other certifications (e.g. MCSE, CompTIA Network+, ITIL Foundation) are advantageous.
