About the Role

As a Senior Developer, you\'ll take a leading role in designing, building and delivering high‑quality, AI‑driven software solutions. You\'ll guide technical decision-making and champion best practices across the engineering lifecycle. This is a chance to work with modern cloud and AI technologies at scale, while influencing how integrated digital services are delivered across Ordnance Survey.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Leading the technical delivery of complex projects, working closely with architects, delivery managers, and stakeholders
  • Coaching, mentoring, and supporting engineers to continually enhance capability across the team
  • Operating and improving production services to ensure robustness, resilience, and reliability
  • Sharing best practices and identifying training opportunities to upskill the wider engineering community
  • Communicating goals, progress, and technical challenges clearly across teams
  • Providing line management support for Engineers and Associate Engineers (as required)
What We Are Looking For
  • Proven experience as a senior developer with strong backend engineering expertise
  • Deep knowledge of Python, SQL, and cloud-based AI frameworks (e.g., Databricks, Azure AI Services)
  • Hands-on experience with Azure development—Azure DevOps, Git, CI/CD, Entra ID RBAC, and Azure Services
  • Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and agile delivery practices
  • Experience with geospatial data, REST APIs, JSON, and spatial engines (e.g., Apache Spark)
  • Experience with Generative AI, including LLMs, RAG, and prompt/context engineering
  • A passion for continuous improvement and delivering high‑quality solutions

Location

We embrace a hybrid working model at OS. We have a fantastic HQ in Southampton, Hampshire where you will be based and required to spend 2-3 days a week.
