Job description

We are looking for a Senior Billing Assistant to join our Finance team in our Exeter office on a full time and permanent basis. In this role, you’ll take ownership of the billing process, managing anticipated disbursements, and e-billing systems to ensure every invoice is accurate and efficient. You’ll handle ad-hoc purges, apply billing rules, assign payers’ proportions, and ensure the right bill templates are applied. With our newly automated systems, you’ll have time to dive into investigative queries, solve interesting problems, and make a real impact on the team’s workflow.

This is a chance to get a head start on a brand-new system for the firm. You’ll learn its functions, help shape how it is used across Finance, and work collaboratively with colleagues while having the autonomy to take ownership of tasks and drive improvements wherever you see opportunities.

Your role will also include raising non-legal invoices, charge out rates, producing credit notes, managing billing queries, recording undertakings, making amendments or reprints, setting up billing groups, and linking related client information. You’ll be at the heart of the team, ensuring billing processes run efficiently, while gaining exposure to all aspects of billing in a busy professional services environment.

Who you are

You are a highly organised and process-driven professional who thrives in a busy billing environment. You have experience in billing, ideally within a solicitors or professional services setting, and enjoy working with automated systems to streamline processes and improve efficiency.

You are confident managing your own workload without needing close supervision, but you also enjoy supporting colleagues and contributing to a smooth-running team. You are proactive in identifying ways to improve processes, adaptable to new systems, and comfortable handling complex billing scenarios with professionalism and clarity. Above all, you are someone who enjoys making processes work better and takes satisfaction in seeing the positive impact of your work across the firm.

Our offer

We know that our people are at the heart of everything we do – and that’s why we’re committed to supporting your wellbeing, growth and work-life balance.

Beyond our benefits package, you’ll be encouraged, no matter what your role or career level, to get involved in our Responsible Business programme, where you’ll support initiatives such as charity fundraising, environmental causes and our employee led diversity and inclusion groups.

You can find out more about our benefits by visiting the Reward & Wellbeing page on our website.
