Analog Integrated Circuit Design Engineer

Location: Cambridge, United Kingdom

A spin‑out of Cambridge University, Cambridge GaN Devices (CGD) is a fabless semiconductor company that develops a range of energy‑efficient GaN‑based power devices to make greener electronics possible. The global power semiconductor market is expected to exceed $50 BN, and CGD has secured four projects funded by iUK, BEIS and the EU (Penta). CGD’s technical and commercial expertise has propelled early market traction for its proprietary technology.

CGD is driven by the environmental need to reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. By pushing the limits of semiconductor (GaN) properties, the team delivers green solutions for everyday electronics while preserving natural resources.

Responsibilities
  • Design and layout of GaN power ICs using EDA tools, including schematic capture, analog simulations, chip layout, DRC, LVS, PEX, PLS
  • Design and implement solutions for testing GaN Power ICs, conducting tests on wafer level and on packaged devices
  • Provide detailed documentation, chip evaluation and debugging
  • Develop SPICE models of GaN ICs
  • Generate IP and support management with patent applications and IP management
Essential Requirements
  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or science subject
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of analog ICs
  • Experience in the EDA design process (schematic capture, analog simulation, chip layout, DRC, LVS, PEX, PLS)
  • Good knowledge of electrical test and characterisation of analog ICs for prototyping and mass production
  • Strong project management skills
  • Creative thinker with practical skills and experience
  • Ability to inspire confidence in colleagues, partners, and customers, comfortable in a fast‑paced, start‑up environment
  • Pro‑active by nature, responsive to changing needs of projects and business
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • Mindset for precise and high‑quality results

Desirable Requirements
  • Experience in the semiconductor industry preferred
  • Experience with power ICs preferred
  • Experience with Cadence Virtuoso and Mentor Calibre preferred
