Job summary

A supportive educational organization in Bedford is seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to foster an inclusive learning environment. Responsibilities include implementing Individual Education Plans, providing 1:1 support for students with Autism, and collaborating with teachers and external professionals. Qualifications

  • Experience working 1:1 or supporting young people with Autism.
  • Additional training in Autism awareness, positive behaviour support or safeguarding is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Assist the teacher in delivering tailored learning activities.
  • Implement and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Use positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Support pupil's communication and social interaction skills.
  • Liaise with parents and professionals.
  • Maintain accurate records of progress and interventions.
  • Assist with personal care if required.

Education

Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching
Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education
Job description
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting independence and confidence.
  • Assist the teacher in delivering tailored learning activities
  • Implement and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the SENCO and teaching staff.
  • Use positive behaviour support strategies to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour.
  • Support the pupil in developing communication and social interaction skills, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Liaise regularly with parents, teachers, and external professionals to provide consistent and effective support.
  • Maintain accurate records of progress, behaviour, and interventions.
  • Assist with personal care if required, and ensure the pupil’s safety and well-being at all times
Experience:
  • Experience working 1:1 or supporting young people with Autism
Skills:
  • Strong communication skills, including active listening and non verbal communication
  • Adaptability and flexibility to respond to changing needs and classroom dynamics
  • Understanding of AUtism Spectrum Conditions and relevant support strategies
  • Creativity in delivering engaging and accesible learning activities
  • Team work and collaboration with teaching staff, SENCOs and external professionals
  • Good organisation skills to manage resources, schedules and documentation
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
Educational requirements:
  • A relevant qualification such as: Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching, Level 3 Dipolma in Childcare and Education
  • Additional training in Autism awareness, positive behaviour support or safeguarding is highly desireable
