Location Description

Wakefield is one of the largest production facilities within Michael Foods. We serve as a flex plant and are able to produce everything from a whole pasteurized egg to liquid, dried, hardboiled and curds.

Responsibilities

The Lead Person plays a critical role in supporting the department supervisor and driving operational excellence. This position is responsible for leading and developing team members, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment, and maintaining the highest standards of product quality and food safety. The Lead Person acts as a key resource for training, workflow coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead & Train: Provide hands‑on training for new hires and existing team members. Support ongoing development when new equipment or processes are introduced.
  • Coordinate Workflow: Assign daily tasks to department personnel to ensure smooth operations and meet production goals.
  • Champion Safety & Compliance: Conduct safety audits, reinforce safety as a core value, and ensure adherence to all regulatory and company standards.
  • Maintain Quality Standards: Monitor production lines and equipment to ensure consistent product quality. Promptly address discrepancies and elevate issues as needed.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Encourage team feedback to improve productivity, reduce costs, and enhance quality.
  • Operational Excellence: Maintain accurate records, complete daily reports, and manage SAP entries and documentation.
  • Equipment Oversight: Report maintenance needs and assist with troubleshooting to minimize downtime and maintain efficiency.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Foster strong working relationships across departments to support company objectives.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Operate forklifts/pallet jacks as needed, follow SOPs, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Required
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills
  • Previous forklift and/or pallet jack experience desired.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Must have basic computer skills (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.
  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills. Able to direct, train and motivate department personnel.
  • Ability to recognize problem situations, investigate and take appropriate steps to resolve.
  • Ability to work in cold, wet, noisy, dusty and humid environments.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships and work effectively with others to complete work assignments.
  • Able to work independently or with others in a team environment depending upon the assignment.
  • Self‑motivated while also willing to ask questions and seek direction.
  • Displays responsible behavior at work.
  • Open to change.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a forklift and pallet jack license.
  • Must be able to work overtime or weekends when required.
