Job description
Overview

The post holder will be required to manage all aspects of the workload in the absence of a Band 7 Team lead and will be directly responsible, under their duty of care, for the planning, treatment and care of patients undergoing Radiotherapy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide daily supervision and training to junior staff, students and visitors.
  • Work closely with Radiotherapy Physicists, Technicians, Oncologists, Dieticians, Speech Therapists, Nurses, Admin staff, other Radiographers and other professional groups to deliver a thorough, efficient service encompassing accurate Radiotherapy treatment delivery and patient care.
  • Support Treatment and Pre‑Treatment team lead radiographers and manage all aspects of the service in their absence to ensure smooth and effective service.
  • Be directly responsible, under individual duty of care, for CT scanning, simple planning, treatment, time management and care of patients undergoing Radiotherapy procedures.
  • Adhere to all National and Local policies and procedures and be fully conversant in the IR(ME)R and IRR requirements for the clinical area, acting as a point of reference for the department.
  • Actively participate in service improvement, national and local clinical trials.
Training & Development

Applicants who do not fully meet Band 6 requirements but demonstrate clear potential may be appointed at Band 5 on a developmental basis. Candidates will enter a structured senior training programme, completing all required competencies under support from the departmental training and education lead. Upon completion, the post holder will progress to Band 6; if not achieved within the agreed timeframe, the post holder will remain on the Band 5 pay scale until competency is achieved.

Eligibility

Candidates who have applied in the last 6 months need not apply. Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status NHS staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

About the Team

The post holder is part of a specialist team rotating through the pre‑treatment and treatment areas of Radiotherapy, supporting the team leader of the highly complex treatment unit, Brachytherapy unit, CT planning unit or pre‑treatment liaison area.
