Overview

OrganOx is an innovative, fast-paced, global medical device company with a mission to save lives by making every donated organ count. The company is a commercial stage organ technology company, spun out of the University of Oxford in 2008, committed to improving transplantation outcomes throughout the world. The OrganOx metra normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) system for liver transplantation has been used to support more than 5,000 liver transplant operations globally.

Position Summary

The Principal Electronics Engineer will be the technical lead for electronics design across current and next-generation OrganOx products, ensuring designs meet stringent medical device standards. This role combines hands-on design, technical leadership, and mentoring of junior engineers, with responsibility for delivering robust, compliant, and innovative electronic solutions. This is an on-site role in Oxford with flexibility, enabling close collaboration with cross-functional engineering, quality, and regulatory teams.

Major Responsibilities
  • Leading the design, development, and verification of electronic systems for Class III medical devices
  • Defining electronic architecture and component selection to meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements (IEC 60601, IEC 62304, ISO 14971)
  • Reviewing and approving schematics, PCB layouts, and technical documentation
  • Supporting system-level architecture decisions, particularly in relation to embedded hardware/software integration
  • Conducting and overseeing design verification and validation activities, including EMC testing, safety testing, and reliability analysis
  • Acting as a subject matter expert in design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for testability (DFT)
  • Working closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure quality and compliance of electronic assemblies
  • Mentoring and supporting the growth of junior electronics engineers
  • Adhering to the letter and spirit of OrganOx's Code of Conduct and all other company policies
Skills & Experience
  • 10+ years of relevant electronics engineering experience, preferably in medical devices or other regulated industries
  • Extensive experience in electronics design for safety-critical or regulated products (medical device experience strongly preferred)
  • Strong background in both analogue and digital circuit design
  • Proven track record of designing to IEC 60601 and other relevant safety standards
  • Experience with PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer) and version control systems
  • Knowledge of power electronics, motor control, and communication protocols (CAN, RS485, Ethernet)
  • Experience in EMC/EMI mitigation techniques and testing
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional environment and lead technical discussions
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or related discipline
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
