A community organization is looking for a committed individual to serve as a co-opted governor at a local primary and nursery school. This role includes attending meetings, engaging with school leaders about progress, and visiting the school to observe practices. Ideal candidates should have good interpersonal skills, literacy, and numeracy, and be willing to commit for four years. A DBS check will be required, and applicants without children or grandchildren at the school are preferred.
Harlands Community Primary & Nursery School was built in 1996 in Ridgewood, Uckfield, and is responsible for educating children from the ages of 2 to 11 in the local area.
They are looking to recruit a co‑opted governor. As members of the Full Board of Governors, governors work closely with the headteacher, supporting them and challenging them. The role will include:
Training and ongoing development is provided by East Sussex Local Authority and through GovernorHub. This is all explained in the governor induction programme.
Governors need to be committed, inquisitive to question and analyse, and willing to learn. They need good interpersonal skills, an appropriate level of literacy and be sufficiently numerate to understand basic data.
It is preferable if applicants do not have children or grandchildren at the school – as they already have parent‑elected governors and are looking for a balanced mix. They are seeking a commitment of four years – governors can be re‑elected thereafter. A DBS check will be required.
