Job summary

A community support charity in Ardrossan is seeking a part-time Personal Assistant to provide social support for a 47-year-old man with Down Syndrome. The role involves community engagement, assisting with daily insulin injections, and requires flexibility in hours. Personal Assistant / Support Worker (P/T)

Hours: 6.25 hrs per week

Days / Hours: (Earliest start 9.30 / 10am – Latest finish 5.00pm)

Preferred days: Monday / Thursday – however this is flexible

R.O.P: £13.73 per hr

Responsibilities
  • Provide social support and companionship within the local community to a 47 year old man who lives with Down Syndrome and Type 1 Diabetes. He lives with his family in the Largs area.
  • Maintain utmost confidentiality.
  • Provide social support and companionship within the local community, including going for leisurely walks and going out for something to eat. He enjoys music and attends bands/tribute acts; he also visits Glasgow to view record and guitar shops.
  • Be friendly, with a cheery personality and an easygoing demeanor. Be calm, supportive, proactive and encouraging in a positive way.
  • Where possible, have similar interests to enable good conversation about his hobbies.
  • Hours may include longer shifts or evenings to support travel to events.
  • The gentleman requires daily insulin injections. Hours are normally around meal times. He can read and monitor his own blood sugar levels; on occasion the PA may need to oversee insulin administration. Training can be provided by the employer.
Experience & Requirements
  • Experience of working with adults with Down Syndrome is preferred.
  • Preferable that applicants are drivers with a current driving licence, own car and business insurance.
  • Wage rate incorporates travel allowance; mileage costs will be covered for work-related travel.
  • Willingness to undergo PVG Disclosure; provide 2 references; and complete relevant training.
  • 6-month probationary period with 1 week’s notice within that time if the post does not work out.
