Peripatetic Music Teacher (Oboe & Recorder)

Location: Surbiton High School

Start Date: April 2026

Contract: Maternity Cover, Part-time (5.5 hours per week)

Day: Friday

Salary: £53.49 per hour (including holiday pay)

Surbiton High School is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Peripatetic Music Teacher specialising in Oboe and Recorder (up to Grade 6/7 standard) to join our vibrant and ambitious Music Department. This is an exciting opportunity to work across our Senior School and Girls’ Preparatory School, nurturing musical excellence and creativity in pupils of all ages.

About the Role

You will deliver high-quality individual instrumental tuition, helping pupils to achieve their very best in performance and technique. Lessons will take place on Fridays, and you will play an active role in the wider musical life of the School, including concerts, ensembles, and events.

What We’re Looking For

A skilled and inspiring teacher with the ability to motivate pupils and foster a love of music.

Strong proficiency in teaching Oboe and Recorder across a range of styles.

Excellent organisational and communication skills.

A good honours degree in Music or equivalent (Performance/Teaching degree preferred).

A proven track record of successful instrumental teaching and pupil progress.
