We’re looking for a passionate and proactive People Officer to join our HR team on a fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. This role focuses on Learning & Development, Talent Acquisition, and Employee Wellbeing offering the chance to make a real impact in a dynamic, people-first organisation.

You’ll work closely with the People Director and other team members to support recruitment, onboarding, training, and firmwide initiatives that enhance professional growth and engagement.

This is primarily Home‑based with travel to our offices (particularly Plymouth and Exeter) required as part of supporting internal events and training.

Key Responsibilities

Your day‑to‑day will be varied and rewarding, including:

  • Supporting recruitment and careers events, especially during busy periods.
  • Coordinating onboarding plans and delivering engaging induction sessions for new starters.
  • Designing and facilitating both in‑person and online training sessions.
  • Assisting senior leaders with training design, delivery, and soft skills development.
  • Organising company‑wide events such as the Annual Firm Day, wellbeing initiatives, and CPD activities.
  • Managing training administration, bookings, and relationships with external providers.
  • Overseeing CPD processes, wellbeing programs, and mental health first aid training.
  • Promoting ongoing development through initiatives like Training Tuesdays and Wellbeing Wednesdays.
  • Coordinating the company’s healthcare cashback scheme and work experience programmes.

About You

You’re professional, approachable, and thrive in a people-focused role. You enjoy variety from recruitment to learning and wellbeing and take pride in creating a positive employee experience.

You will be able to:

  • Commit to the full duration of the fixed‑term contract.
  • Travel to different office locations when required.
  • Collaborate flexibly with colleagues to support wider team needs.

We’re also looking for:

  • A confident communicator with excellent presentation and writing skills.
  • A positive, solutions-focused attitude and strong organisational skills.
  • High emotional intelligence and genuine passion for people development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) and Canva.
  • Experience creating training materials or delivering learning sessions.
  • Creativity, adaptability, and attention to detail.

Experience or qualifications in training, coaching, or IT would be a plus, but are not essential.

What We Offer

  • Full-time (36.25 hours) or part-time hours considered.
  • Flexible, hybrid, or office-based working.
  • 20 days annual leave (rising to 25 after 3 years), plus bank holidays.
  • Annual salary review.
  • Healthcare cashback plan and 24‑hour Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Flexible benefits including holiday trading, Cycle to Work, and Private Medical Insurance.
  • Pension contributions (up to 6% matched).
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay after one year of service.
  • Opportunities to contribute to wellbeing, learning, and company-wide initiatives.
