Job description
We’re looking for a People and Culture Manager who cares as much about how people experience work as what policies say. Someone who can lead with confidence, bring warmth and challenge in equal measure, and help build a culture where people feel supported, trusted and able to do their best work.

At Citizens Advice Northumberland, our team makes a real difference in people’s lives every day. This new role exists to make sure they’re supported just as well.

What you’ll be doing

  • Acting as our strategic HR lead, advising senior leaders and managers
  • Championing a healthy, inclusive and values‑led culture
  • Leading the full employee lifecycle, from attraction and onboarding through to wellbeing, employee relations, formal HR processes and exit
  • Supporting managers through complex people issues with empathy and sound judgement
  • Using data and insight to improve how we work
  • Owning and evolving our people practices, not just maintaining them.

This is a stand‑alone role with real autonomy and influence, and the opportunity to help shape how people support develops in the future.

Who we’re looking for

You’ll have solid generalist HR experience and be comfortable working both strategically and operationally. You’ll be confident in influencing and constructively challenging leaders, committed to equity and inclusion, and motivated by work that genuinely matters.

  • Meaningful work that supports real impact across Northumberland
  • A supportive, collaborative leadership team
  • Flexibility, trust and space to shape the role
  • An organisation that’s actively investing in its culture and ways of working.

Charity or not‑for‑profit experience is welcome, but not essential – mindset matters more.

Employees benefit from:

  • Being part of a committed team who work together to bring about positive changes for individuals, local communities and society as a whole
  • Structured Personal Development process with clear opportunities to develop yourself professionally and your career within the organisation
  • Full training appropriate to the role
  • 36 days annual leave (including bank holidays) for full time employees
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme
  • Northumberland Community Bank payroll savings scheme
  • Enrolment in the Company Pension Scheme

Citizens Advice Northumberland is a Disability Confident and Living Wage employer and has signed the North of Tyne Good Work Pledge.
