Job description

Clearance: BPSS - SC would be desirable but not essential

RC Fornax are looking for an experienced PCB CAD Designer with strong proficiency in Altium Designer to create compact, high-quality PCB layouts for land‑based defence equipment.

You will work closely with the in‑house electrical engineering team, who will provide schematics and component selection. Your primary responsibility will be translating these into robust PCB layouts that meet stringent performance and manufacturability standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop PCB layouts using Altium Designer based on provided schematics.
  • Optimize board design for compactness, signal integrity, and RF interference mitigation.
  • Ensure compliance with manufacturing standards and demonstrate design‑for‑manufacture (DFM) principles.
  • Collaborate with engineers to validate component placement and routing for performance and reliability.
  • Support fast prototyping and iterative design processes in defence environments.
  • Prepare and maintain all relevant design documentation and fabrication files.
  • Strong understanding of RF signal integrity, grounding, and shielding techniques.
  • Evidence of manufacturability in previous projects (portfolio or case studies).
  • Experience with defence or high‑reliability environments and rapid prototyping.
  • Familiarity with IPC standards and best practices for PCB design.
  • Knowledge of EMC compliance and thermal management.
  • Experience with multi‑layer boards and high‑speed signal routing.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt to evolving requirements.
