HMP Lewes is a category B male prison. Lewes prison is based near the centre of the historical town of Lewes, which is just a 5 minute walk away.
Details
- Hours: 37.5 hours a week, Monday – Sunday 7pm-07.30am. Working pattern: 3 shifts x 11.5 per week for three weeks and 4 shifts x 11.5 every fourth week.
- Salary: Up to £52,259 per annum – depending on experience
- Location: Lewes, East Sussex
- Contract: Permanent

Main duties of the job / Responsibilities
- Lead a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a nurse led service and prevent hospital admissions.
- Undertake medication rounds and dispense controlled medication.
- Attend emergency response situations.
- Assess patients and undertake reception screening.
- Assess patients' health needs using an evidence based framework; perform risk assessments with sound clinical knowledge.
- Assess physical and mental health of prisoners on admission and throughout custody to make appropriate referrals.
- Make clinical judgements regarding immediate needs and long-term treatment.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Registered nurse (Mental Health)
- Current professional qualification (NMC)
- Evidence of Continued Professional Development
- Experience of complexities of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working
- Non-judgmental and compassionate approach
- Understanding of mental health policy including clinical governance and the quality and outcomes framework, and national standards such as NICE
