Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) as a Medical Examiner. Vacancies have arisen within the current team of Medical Examiners based at the County Hospital site in Stafford. We are looking for a qualified clinician who is naturally curious, data‑friendly and ready to lead the way in developing our understanding of the impact of the care we provide in both acute and non‑acute settings. You will be based at the County Hospital office (no remote work) and will be supported with an office base and administrative support.

Main Duties
  • Scrutinise medical examiner reviews, including reviewing and discussing proposed causes of death with practitioners and the bereaved, conducting proportionate review of relevant medical records (electronic and paper).
  • Identify potential learning opportunities in line with the NHS Learning From Deaths framework.
  • Develop and improve methods for reducing inaccuracies in death certificates and increasing confidence in Learning From Deaths.
