Job summary

A leading clinical-stage organization in London seeks a Medical Director - Ophthalmology to drive clinical strategy and oversee early and late phase trials. The ideal candidate should hold an MD, MD-PhD, or PhD in life sciences and possess a solid background in ophthalmology. Qualifications

I’m supporting a growing clinical-stage organisation in the ophthalmology and gene therapy space that is looking to appoint a Medical Director - Ophthalmology to lead clinical strategy and support execution of early and late phase trials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide medical and scientific leadership across ophthalmology programs
  • Lead protocol development, amendments, and benefit–risk assessments
  • Oversee medical monitoring, safety review, and data interpretation
  • Support clinical operations with feasibility, site selection, and enrolment
  • Build relationships with PIs, KOLs, and investigators
  • Represent the medical function in regulatory and advisory interactions
Experience Needed
  • MD / MD-PhD / PhD in life sciences or related field
  • Background in ophthalmology (retina/IRDs) preferred
  • 3+ years in pharma/biotech/CRO clinical development
  • Strong understanding of trial design, GCP, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience with retinal trials or early-phase gene therapy is highly desirable
