Job description
Overview

Our museum tells the story of early primary education and the social history of childhood.

We are looking for volunteers to join our Learning Team, delivering lessons in our Victorian Classrooms or teaching social history sessions to school trips.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver Victorian-themed lessons in historical classrooms, taking on the role of Teacher and, if desired, dressing in full Victorian costume.
  • Lead and support history sessions with visiting school groups, covering topics such as Victorian toys, play, social class differences, and daily life in 1840 or 1880.
  • Work as part of the Learning Team to provide engaging, informative experiences for students.
Qualifications
  • Experience in education or teaching is common among volunteers, but enthusiasm and ability to communicate clearly with children are essential.
  • Preparation and good communicative skills are valued; prior teaching experience is not required.
Time commitment

Educational sessions usually take place 9.45–1.30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please be available for at least one session each month; more sessions are welcome. Training is provided.
