JOB BAND: C
CONTRACT TYPE: Fixed-term Contract, Full-time / Attachment, Full-time
DEPARTMENT: BBC Sport
LOCATION: Salford – Hybrid
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £35,800 - £45,800 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

This role is currently advertised as internal only. Freelancers are eligible to apply if they have been on a Worker Contract (more info here) continuously for 6 months. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Junior Production Manager works with BBC Sport production and editorial teams to manage day-to-day production operations, ensuring accurate budgets, schedules, and planning. The role enables delivery of high-quality, multi-platform content within financial and operational constraints. It requires strong project management, organisational and interpersonal skills, and experience in end-to-end production processes to maintain efficiency and uphold BBC’s reputation for world-class sports coverage.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Plan and Manage Productions – Oversee deployment schedules, associated budgets, and resources to ensure productions meet divisional requirements.
  • Ensure Compliance and Risk Management – Adhere to BBC policies, legal, and regulatory standards while safeguarding rights and minimising risk.
  • Financial Oversight – Prepare, monitor, and report on production budgets, ensuring financial viability and accurate forecasting.
  • Team Leadership and Development – Supervise and support production staff, identify training needs, and maintain a safe, inclusive working environment.
  • Drive Efficiency and Innovation – Promote new technologies, improve workflows, and implement sustainability practices to enhance production effectiveness.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Experience working at Production Coordinator level.
  • Strong organisational and production management skills within a production environment.
  • Strong communicator with proven ability to build relationships, guide teams proactively, and drive effective change across production workflows.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, monitor costs, and work with BBC finance systems for payments, bookings and reporting.
  • Good understanding of the content produced across our sport department.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Familiarity with sustainability practices in production.
  • Ability to mentor or support less experienced colleagues.
  • Experience of working in Sport production.
