Job description

We’re on a mission to rethink recycling the AO Way, and we’re looking for a curious, hands‑on IT Generalist to help us make smart moves and support our growing tech needs – and we need someone who’s been there, done that, and is ready to do it even better. If you love solving problems, embracing change, being part of a supportive team, and playing a critical role in supporting locally delivered IT solutions we’d love to hear from you!

We’re looking for a hands‑on, experienced IT Generalist with a strong track record in delivering smart, practical tech solutions! You’ll need to be confident with SQL and Reporting Services, ready to dive into data, build reports, and help drive smart decisions. A good grasp of networking and enterprise systems is a bonus, and you’ll work closely with third‑party developers and our Group IT team to bring great ideas to life.

This role is packed with potential! You’ll have the chance to grow into a Project Manager or fully‑fledged Business Analyst – taking on bigger projects, leading timelines, and making sure everything runs smoothly and aligns with business goals. It’s a great step, if you’re ready to level up! We are committed to supporting your career development and will provide the necessary mentorship and training to help you grow into a leadership position within the IT function.

Here’s What You Can Expect To Be Doing
  • SQL & Reporting: Build and fine‑tune SQL queries, create reports, and turn data into smart insights.
  • Tech Support: Keep our enterprise solutions running smoothly and offer hands‑on help when needed.
  • Problem Solving: Tackle tech hiccups with creative fixes and a can‑do attitude.
  • Networking Know‑How: Use your basic networking skills to spot and solve common issues.
  • System TLC: Help maintain and upgrade our IT systems so everything runs like clockwork.
  • Documentation: Keep things tidy with easy‑to‑follow documentation, test scripts, and UAT plans.
  • Teamwork: Work closely with third‑party developers and our Group IT crew to deliver top‑notch solutions.
Other Responsibilities
  • Project Delivery: Help deliver IT projects on time and in line with business goals.
  • Requirements Gathering: Collaborate with stakeholders to gather, analyse, and document business requirements. Ensure that all technical specifications are communicated to the development teams.
  • Cross‑functional Collaboration: Work across departments to keep everyone aligned and offer helpful tech advice along the way.
A Few Things About You
  • Strong hands‑on experience with SQL and ETL tools — you know your way around data.
  • Confident using SQL Reporting Services to build, maintain, and optimise reports.
  • Bonus points for Power Apps and Power Automate know‑how.
  • Solid troubleshooting skills, especially with networking basics like connectivity and IP issues.
  • A collaborative mindset — you’ll work closely with Group IT and external partners.
  • A natural problem‑solver with a solutions‑first approach.
  • Comfortable juggling multiple stakeholders and working across teams.
  • Able to work independently and thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Familiar with cloud platforms and general IT infrastructure.
  • Bonus points for Power Apps, Power Automate know‑how and experience delivering IT projects from start to finish.

You might not know all the lingo in the job spec, but if you are curious to learn, then we are happy to teach.

  • Travel between our sites, all based in Telford, will be required.
  • Degree (minimum 2:1) in computer science with relevant experience in IT.
Benefits
  • Holidays; 30 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays)
  • Pension; Contribute 5% of your annual salary and we’ll do the same, giving you a little extra support for the future.
  • VIP at the AO Arena; we have loads of opportunities to win free tickets and pre‑sale access!
  • Health & wellbeing; discounted gym membership, and our Help @ Hand scheme giving you access to virtual GP’s, Mental Health support and much more.
  • Discounts; exclusive discounts across our product range.
  • Family leave; Enhanced Maternity, Paternity and Adoption leave.
  • Making a difference; 2 fully paid days a year to donate your time to any charity of your choice.
  • Free Food Thursday - Last Thursday of every month, lunch is on us as a way of saying thank you for your efforts!
