DEPARTMENT: IT Policy & Governance

LOCATION: Salford, London - Hybrid(2-3 office days per week)

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: up to £60,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

As part of the BBC’s IT Policy & Governance Team, you’ll be accountable for IT commodity spend and best-practice use of technology. You’ll help support the implementation of new policies, processes and governance of IT across the wider BBC. You’ll also work closely with other teams to deliver new technologies, tools and ways of working to support our award-winning News, Production and Operations teams.

Being part of the IT Policy & Governance Team is an excellent opportunity to work closely with a wide range of BBC departments from Radio & Music, News and Sport, to Children’s & Education and our operational teams to make sure they have the technology needed to keep our services on-air and online. You’ll play a key role in the delivery of technology savings that can be reinvested back into creating world leading content and services.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
  • Being accountable for managing divisional IT spend, including providing financial authority and oversight of all high-cost, high-risk purchases while tracking and managing associated risks.
  • Overseeing divisional IT estate(s), providing data analysis and reporting for key stakeholders to help forecast IT needs, implement asset management improvement plans, reduce wastage and support sustainability targets.
  • Working with IT Asset Co-ordinators (ITCs) and Asset Managers (ITAMs) to identify cost saving opportunities, ensuring accurate tracking and updating of records – as well as providing advice, training and support on technology policies, best practice and managing atypical requests.
  • Becoming a trusted partner and IT governance lead for technology projects, supporting delivery and resolving conflict/resistance within the division.
  • Managing, updating and implementing technology policies to ensure divisional adherence. Maintain supporting guidance across team sites, training hubs and web pages to ensure divisional awareness and adoption.
  • Providing key communications into the business including advisories, incident reporting/updates and critical messages for BBC divisions. Host workshops, amnesty events and technology forums.
  • Supporting the development, management and updating of our IT systems to deliver improvements in how technology is provisioned, utilised, managed, as well as ensuring adequate re-use and recycling.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
  • Have relevant IT management/governance/project management qualifications or experience (e.g. COBIT, CITAM, CHAMP, etc.).
  • Have excellent knowledge and understanding of current consumer available IT hardware and software including MS windows and Mac OS and office suites.
  • Be able to demonstrate proven experience of data / financial analysis and reporting including the use of tools/apps to support this.
  • Have excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex IT language into plain English for all levels of stakeholders and staff.
  • Have experience of recruitment, line management and task management of teams or individuals either directly or indirectly.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED
  • Have experience of outsourced IT service management model with a good understanding of supplier management, service descriptions, SLAs, costs and processes.
  • Have the ability to understand and translate business needs and identify suitable IT technology solutions.
  • Have experience of working in a large matrix organisation providing highly proactive support service, adhering to defined business and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Have knowledge of Software procurement and licensing (SAAS, EULAs, etc).
