The Role

FlexEnable are currently seeking an Instrumentation Control Engineer to join the OptoElectrical Test Team. The main purpose of the role is to work as part of a small team providing support for optoelectronic testing of module and system units. This is a hands‑on, practical role, working alongside inquisitive, innovative and exceptional engineers and reporting into the Applications Director. The incumbent will be a key member of the test team, supporting the activities of the engineers within the team and proactively contributing to standardisation and continuous improvement of test routines.

Responsibilities of the role
  • To develop, test and maintain software for instrument control and equipment.
  • To integrate software with hardware components.
  • To create user interfaces for controlling and monitoring instruments.
  • To debug and troubleshoot software/hardware as required.
  • To work with team members to optimise the system performance.
  • To document and control software.
  • To potentially lead customer facing projects.
  • To ensure software and all associated working practices adhere to health, safety and quality standards.
The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate the following
  • Experience in Python, MATLAB and/or C#, SQL.
  • Experience with instrument control within a test laboratory or technical environment.
  • Desirable to have database experience.
  • Willingness to learn and perform some optoelectronics testing as required.
  • Flexible approach to work in a dynamic and changing environment.
  • The ability to meet deadlines.
  • The ability to communicate in a professional, clear, precise and effective manner—strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skill, including the ability to build effective working relationships with different individuals.
