Join Disability Equals Ability as our Honorary Treasurer and help shape a future where disabled voices lead the way. We’re seeking someone to oversee our finances and strengthen our mission to empower and uplift the disability community as a growing, small charity.

What difference will you make?

This role is crucial to ensuring that Disability Equals Ability remains financially sustainable as we grow our reach and deepen our impact.

Your expertise will help us
  • Build stronger financial systems and policies that support long-term stability.
  • Ensure our funding and spending align with our strategic goals and values.
  • Strengthen the board’s confidence in making informed, evidence-based decisions.
  • Maintain transparency and accountability in how we manage charitable funds.

As Treasurer, you’ll not only help safeguard the organisation’s future but also empower us to invest more in advocacy, creative campaigns, and community projects that celebrate disability equality.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about disability equality and inclusion, and who shares our belief that lived experience should be at the heart of leadership.

Requirements
  • Experience in financial management, accounting, or charity finance.
  • Good understanding of governance and compliance.
  • Experience in bid writing, grant funding, or income generation (advantage).
  • Comfortable analysing financial information and communicating it clearly to others.
  • Knowledge of charity finances, budgeting, and financial controls.
  • Ability to develop financial policies and systems suitable for a small, volunteer-led organisation.
  • Experience sourcing or managing funding, grants, or partnerships.
  • Confident contributing to strategic discussions and helping the board plan for sustainable growth.
  • Collaborative, open-minded, and committed to accessibility and inclusion.

Lived experience of disability or strong understanding of the barriers faced by disabled people would be particularly valued.

What will you be doing?

As Treasurer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the charity’s financial health and helping the board make confident, strategic decisions.

  • Present budgets, management accounts, and annual financial statements to the Board.
  • Lead on financial policy development, including reserves, investment, and risk management.
  • Support the creation of clear, accessible financial reports for the Board.
  • Oversee implementation of sound financial systems and ensure compliance with charity regulations.
  • Act as a counter signatory on charity cheques and funding applications when needed.
  • Advise on financial implications of our strategic and operational plans.

As a small charity, we particularly welcome someone with experience in bid writing, grant applications, and sourcing new funding opportunities to diversify income streams.

Our Board is a passionate, collaborative team of people with lived and professional experience of disability, advocacy, and social change. We value creativity, transparency, and a shared commitment to equity.
