Job description

Join Our Helpline Team | Make a Real Difference

We’re looking for compassionate, reliable volunteers to join our Next Chapter Scotland Helpline team.

This service supports people and families affected by the justice system offering information and signposting when it’s needed most.

What’s involved
  • 1 set day a week, 10am–2pm
  • Two full days of initial training
  • Ongoing support and optional further training if you’d like to grow your role
  • Lived experience of the criminal justice system (your own or through family) is especially valued
  • No PVG required

You’ll be part of a supportive, trauma-informed team helping people take the next step in their journey.

At Next Chapter Scotland, we support everyone, regardless of their offence type. We are therefore looking for people who are:

  • non-judgmental (acknowledging that no-one in the world is completely non-judgmental but being open to talk about any biases or concerns you may be feeling, so as to work through them)
  • able to handle confidential information
  • able to take detailed notes and pass them to appropriate team members

The role is home based. You will require a private space to be able to take calls without being overheard. When training takes place in person, it is likely to be in Glasgow. However, online options will be available. Travel expenses will also be covered.

Support

2 full days on induction training will be provided at the outset. All team members are provided with safeguarding and trauma-awareness training. Ongoing training will be provided to all volunteers.

Restrictions

Minimum age: 18
The role does not require a PVG. We will provide a phone. However, you will need access to a computer and Wifi in order to use the telephone system.
