Job summary

Overview

The East Genomic Laboratory Hub (East GLH) is one of seven hubs in the Genomic Medicine Service. Delivering Cancer Genomics testing to 31 NHS Trusts, serving over 9m people, is complex and challenging. The Cambridge Genomics Laboratory is therefore pleased to be recruiting an experienced Healthcare Scientist who can work in either Solid or Liquid Cancer, depending on the candidate’s experience and potential. HCPC Registered candidates will be appointed at Band 7, and those needing to work to registration will be appointed at Band 6 until registered, subject to agreed timelines.

The Cambridge Genomics Laboratory is the lead laboratory of the East GLH. It is a busy workplace undergoing transformation. You will be able to analyse and report complex information to provide clinically relevant and timely reports to requesting clinicians.

You will join a dynamic establishment that is keenly developing its staff, making a real difference to patients who are benefitting from the latest genomic testing technology.

Main duties
  • Analysis, interpretation, reporting and authorization of cancer genomic test results
  • Deliver and maintain a high-quality diagnostic service to regional oncology services
  • Provide advice to clinicians and colleagues
  • Manage a small team of scientists by recruiting, training and supporting continual personal development
  • Ensure the continuous improvement and development of laboratory services
  • Ensure the continued compliance of the laboratory using the quality management system
Job Requirements
  • HCPC registration (candidates will be appointed at Band 7 if already registered; Band 6 until registration if not yet registered, subject to agreed timelines)
  • Experience in Solid or Liquid Cancer genomics, depending on candidate experience
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and report complex genomic data and provide clinically relevant reports
  • Experience in line management or supervision of scientists and supporting their professional development
  • Commitment to quality management and continuous service improvement
