The Role

We are seeking a dedicated Head of Engineering to join our team at our Gunstone's Bakery site, which is a long‑standing and respected site, known for producing premium bakery products such as bread rolls and hot cross buns for high‑profile retail partners including Marks & Spencer. As the Head of Engineering, you will be at the forefront of our engineering operations, ensuring the smooth running of the site. This role is perfect for a seasoned engineering professional with a strong technical background and leadership experience. You will oversee a team of 50 engineers, manage the PPM schedules & CAPEX plan, and work closely with operations and new product development to align factory capabilities with their innovative product offerings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the engineering strategy, focusing on proactive rather than reactive measures.
  • Oversee effective Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules.
  • Collaborate with operations and NPD teams to introduce new products.
  • Manage the CAPEX plan for the site.
  • Ensure the smooth operation of typical FMCG machinery, including conveyors and fabrication facilities.
What We're Looking For
  • Extensive experience in engineering within a similar manufacturing environment.
  • Strong technical background in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing engineering teams.
  • Comfortable with fabrication and buildings maintenance.
  • Ideally, experience within a similar‑sized business or operation within FMCG or Food Manufacturing.
