Position Overview

Due to retirement, the Blood Sciences Department at NHS Highland requires a Haematology Team Manager (8a) to join our friendly, dedicated and professional team.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the Haematology section, including routine and specialist analyses
  • Provide technical support to Raigmore Hospital, Caithness General, Belford Hospital and Lorn and Islands General Laboratories
  • Oversee use of Sysmex Haematology and Coagulation analysers and Haemoglobinopathy & HbA1c analysis using Tosoh HPLC
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 15189 accreditation standards
  • Manage and develop the team, maintaining a high standard of service for a tertiary centre handling over 5 million tests per annum
Qualifications
  • IBMS Higher specialist portfolio or MSc in Biomedical Science (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 5 years post higher qualification, management qualification or ILM level 5 and/or suitable experience at band 7 or 8a level
  • Experience in an ISO 15189 accredited laboratory
  • Haematology experience (required); blood transfusion experience desirable
