Job summary

A community healthcare organization is seeking Group Therapists to facilitate therapy groups for men with a history of childhood sexual abuse. The role involves assessing referrals, planning and running therapy sessions, and providing clinical supervision. This position offers £47,810 to £54,710 per year pro rata across 15 hours per week, supporting flexible working arrangements.

Group Therapist (Psychologist / Psychotherapist inc Arts)

This is a unique opportunity to work as part of a collaboration with the voluntary sector providing a therapy group for men who experienced sexual abuse as a child. We are looking to employ two co facilitators working 2 days each to plan and run the group together in liaison with MoMENtum. The successful applicants will be based at The Briars, a beautiful building with a large group room in beautiful grounds.

Main duties of the job

• Assessing suitability of referrals to the group.
• Adapting, planning and running and evaluating the therapy group for men who have experienced childhood sexual abuse.
• Identifying and supervising 1:1 support for the group including the buddy system provided by Momentum.
• Providing 1:1 for other existing groups as appropriate

Job Purpose

Theprincipal purpose of the job is to improve the psychological health &wellbeing of people with a history of childhood sexual abuse

Thiswill be achieved in this post through undertaking the following areas ofresponsibility:

1.Carry out consults in specialist area of work withprofessionals wishing to make referrals, to determine suitability

2.Undertake independent specialist assessments of individualsand their needs, leading to advice and guidance for individuals and referrersas well as assessment of suitability for specialist interventions andcontribute to the development and review of risk management plans withprofessional colleagues.

3.Design and provide a groupwork model of PsychologicalTherapy to people with a history of childhood sexual abuse including anyindividual work that may be a part of that model.

4.Provide clinical supervision where appropriate in highlyspecialist area

5.Provide specialist advice and information toservice users, their family members and carers

6.Provide information and providetraining to colleagues within DPT in relation to the model of therapyand the suitability of service users to take part in a model of trauma therapyfor people with a history of childhood sexual abuse

• Clients, family and carers: To communicate in a highly skilled andsensitive manner with clients who may have specific difficulties inunderstand and/or communicating and who may be hostile, antagonistic orhighly emotionally disturbed.
• Multidisciplinary team colleagues: To work closely with colleagues in themulti-professional integrated mental health and wellbeing service on a dayto day basis.

Analytical andJudgemental Skills

• To provide specialistpsychological therapy expertise and advice to people with a history of childhood sexual abuse within PPT.
• To providepsychological therapies, developing specialist psychological formulations andassessments of clients, offeringspecialist assessments of individuals and their needs, leading to advice andguidance for individuals and referrers as well as assessment of suitabilityfor specialist interventions, formulatingplansfor their psychological treatment and implementing psychologicalinterventions for people with a history of childhood sexual abuse as individualsand in groups.
• Undertake risk assessments anddevelop a formulation of risk which will contribute to the development ofrisk management plans with professional colleagues as appropriate. Ensure the continuous re-evaluation ofindividuals needs and clinical risk situations and use clinical judgement toformulate the most appropriate clinical plan, with professional colleagues asappropriate.

• Theservice: To plan and prioritiseown workload, balancing the demands ofindividual care, support and guidance of carers and professionalsand service research and development activities.
• Tocontribute to the planning and organising of the delivery ofpsychological trauma therapies within Devon Partnership NHS Trust and to contribute to the development andimprovement of provision ofpsychological therapy for people with a history of childhood sexualabuse within services to best meetthe organisations strategy and priorities.

• Assessment& intervention:.To make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about assessment,treatment and discharge, including the management of risk. To formulateplans for psychological therapy and implement specialist psychologicalinterventions for women as individuals and groups, and to demonstrateawareness of diversity issues.
• Consultation& guidance: Toprovide specialist advice, guidance and consultation on psychologicaltherapy aspects of individual care to people with a history of childhoodsexual abuse to colleagues and otherservice providers.

Qualifications

• Psychological Therapists need to be trained to masters level or equivalent in a specific psychological therapy and registered with an appropriate recognised professional body e.g. UKCP, BABCP. BACP, HCPC or other relevant PSA accredited body Or Qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist (D.Clin.Psychol. or equivalent) and eligible for Chartered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist Status in the British Psychological Society and Registered with HCPC.
• Further training in specialist area
