The General Manager plays an important role in community building, people development, collaboration and partnerships by overseeing a Health & Fitness Centre. They are responsible for implementing Association strategies and creating positive health impacts in a sustainable way. The position requires multiple capabilities related to relationship management, understanding and responding to the needs of members, staff and volunteers, and working with collaborative support teams to intentionally innovate on creative solutions to important challenges.

In this role, you will:
  • Maintain YMCA standards and be a positive role model for our Mission, Vision, Values, and Commitment to Service.
  • Develop initiatives aligned with our YMCA Strategic Plan to ensure a healthy membership mix and the ongoing engagement of members and partners.
  • Manage annual budget through maintaining expenditures and developing projects.
  • Develop and implement Health, Fitness, and Recreation programs that stimulate member growth and retention.
  • Recruit, coach, and provide leadership to senior staff team of Directors and Managers to ensure effective operation of all programs and services within the centre.
  • Successfully plan, monitor, and manage the annual giving. Provide leadership regarding the Centre’s philanthropic initiatives; understand and integrate the value of philanthropy and volunteerism and impart this knowledge and belief upon staff, volunteers, and members.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with and increase involvement of community partners, members, and volunteers. Maximize our impact through a combination of community-specific programs and unique partnerships.
  • Facilitate appropriate and timely solutions to conflicts, provide leadership to senior staff team in best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
You bring:
  • Post-secondary degree in related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years of senior-level management experience, demonstrating superior leadership skills
  • Knowledge and experience in developing and managing budgets
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and facilitate excellent communication with members, staff, and volunteers
  • Ability to speak multiple languages is an asset
  • A hands‑on, front‑line leader that fosters a work environment valuing teamwork and empowerment
  • An overriding commitment to achieving quality standards within the context of Y Way and the YMCA of Greater Toronto’s Playing to Learn curriculum
  • Flexibility regarding schedule and time commitment, including a willingness to work mornings, nights, and weekends
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging as well as experience in leading and developing and implementing equity‑focused initiatives that address systemic barriers
  • Focus on the health, safety and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services
