Job description

Governor: estates management experience (Resources Committee )

Trafford & Stockport College Group (TSCG) is a large, high-performing Further Education provider operating across five campuses. With a mission to elevate skills, shape futures and transform lives, the Group delivers a broad offer spanning 16–19 education, apprenticeships, adult learning, higher education and community provision. TSCG supports over 6,000 16–19 learners, 6,000 adults, 1,500 apprentices and 400 HE students, and is rated Good by Ofsted with Outstanding Financial Health.

Rooted in its local communities and aligned with Greater Manchester’s economic priorities, TSCG plays a prominent civic role—partnering with employers, leading innovation in areas such as cyber security, AI and carbon literacy, and championing political literacy through pioneering work in democratic engagement. The Group has a strong reputation nationally, including consistent success in WorldSkills UK competitions.

TSCG is now seeking skilled volunteers to join its governance structure and support delivery of its Strategic Plan to 2030. Opportunities include:

  • A governor with experience in estates, facilities, capital projects or construction to join the Resources Committee and Corporation Board, providing oversight of property projects, capital bids and resource planning.
  • A co-opted governor with expertise in audit, risk, compliance, procurement or finance to join the Audit Committee, offering independent scrutiny across risk, internal audit and assurance.

Ideal candidates will bring strategic insight, an inquisitive mindset and the confidence to provide constructive challenge. Professional backgrounds in estates management, project development, audit, risk and compliance, public sector leadership or procurement would be particularly valuable. Previous board experience is welcomed but not essential, and TSCG offers a comprehensive induction, training and mentoring programme.

If you are passionate about education, community impact and supporting skills development across Greater Manchester, TSCG would be delighted to hear from you.
