Role description

As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Principal/Associate Technical Director with a strong track record of leading the environmental and consenting aspects of projects, with particular experience in winning and delivering work in the Design and Build sector.

As part of our Environmental team, you’ll help improve quality of life. With your specialism in environmental management, or your technical or sustainability expertise, your work could involve protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality or noise, in some of the world’s busiest and most beautiful locations.

The rate of large‑scale, unforeseen events such as floods and wildfires is becoming more frequent. Role accountabilities
  • Leading on the coordination and delivery of planning/environmental work being undertaken by multidisciplinary teams, influencing project development and delivering optimal environmental and planning outcomes – with a strong understanding of the D&B process.
  • Strong business development, create project opportunities and lead delivery of projects to build our portfolio in the D&B sector – but also working closely with the upstream Environmental and Planning work.
  • Raise awareness of our services, win new opportunities and build new contacts.
  • Actively engage in key client relationships, lead by example creating cross‑selling opportunities for the wider business.
  • Engage with consultees and stakeholders.
  • Manage projects, oversee our performance on technical, quality, commercial and health and safety.
  • Work closely with existing and established Arcadis colleagues across our Global Business Arcadis.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Excellent working knowledge of the environmental and consenting process, from EIA practices and procedures, including case law, and a solid understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and environmental technical specialisms.
  • Strong experience of working with contractors and influencing sustainability through design.
  • Experience across a range of project types.
  • Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills with experience in reviewing the work of others to ensure quality.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary coordination and leadership of projects, with good project management and technical skills.
  • Experience in consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators and stakeholders.
  • Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management and quality assurance.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with chartered status or working towards.
  • A flexible, pragmatic and collaborative approach to work.
