# Senior Sustainability & Carbon Advisor### Job IntroductionThe SCS Environment & Sustainability team is supporting the construction phase of the HS2 Main Works Civils Contract within the London area, providing strategic oversight to achieving client, programme and parent company objectives & targets. The Senior Sustainability and Carbon Advisor role is focused on climate change & carbon (GHG) emissions, resource efficiency & circular economy. The role sits in the core sustainability team, reporting to the Sustainability and Carbon Lead and supports the project’s delivery units as needed to deliver excellent environmental sustainability performance.Responsible for:* Coordinating, supporting and providing guidance for the delivery of the carbon- & resource-related parts of the SCS Environment & Sustainability strategy* Carbon emissions& energy measurement and effective reporting* Sustainability culture & awareness raising: collaboration & communication across project team & supply chain during the construction phase of the S1 and S2 HS2 Main Works Civils Contract.**Main job location: London Euston,**with presence at site offices in North Acton, Willesden Junction and West Ruislip, as needed.Yes**Working hours:**Weekdays, 40 hr per week**Contract:**Permanent**Flexible working:**We welcome you to ask about the flexibility you need. In return, we will explore what is possible for the role.### Role Responsibility* In-depth understanding of the of the carbon- & resource-related parts of the SCS Environment & Sustainability strategy and hands-on collaboration with various disciplines and teams within SCS for its delivery. Key action areas- Concrete optimisation- Sustainable steel sourcing- Energy & fuel efficiency for construction plant and activities &- More sustainable products and practices overall * Identification, delivery coordination and guidance on key sustainability opportunities & innovations* Actively support the project’s carbon (PAS20280) and energy (ISO50001) management systems* Sustainability progress monitoring, reporting & leveraging improved performance via suitable metrics* Supply chain engagement, pre- and post- award of supply contracts: effective communication with suppliers and subcontractors, suitable input to contract requirements & tender questions, supplier response assessment, supplier coordination & progress monitoring during contract delivery### The Ideal Candidate* Background in engineering, science or environmental studies.* Acumen of climate change and wider sustainability topics: decarbonisation over the life cycle of projects, resource efficiency, circular economy, design for durability, deconstruction and re-use, renewable energy & alternative fuels, sustainable solutions etc. in the context of construction* Experience in working effectively within a multidisciplinary team, taking a collaborative approach* Set up & delivery of sustainability and carbon management processes* Conversant in carbon accounting and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), preferably for the construction industry* Analytical, presentation and report writing skills* Prioritisation, organization & task coordination skills* Passion for Environmental Sustainability, driving innovation and an ability and desire to positively influence and develop those around them* **Desirable qualifications, skills, behaviours and attributes** + Team leadership and engagement skills### About the CompanyThe role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting UK cities with fast, reliable and frequent high-speed servicesThe Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 Main Civils Contracts which include both Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). The combined value of the contracts is around £4billion with the works due for completion in 2025. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.You’ll be a welcomed member of the wider team, with opportunities to take on additional responsibility, join one of our networks for women, military or LGBT+ staff, and participate in cultural and social events with the local community (e.g. as a STEM ambassador).Your personal and professional development is important to us.
